Infrastructure and Nature
Karl Nielsen is a commercial photographer and filmmaker based in the San Francisco Bay Area who focuses on large civil infrastructure, the environment, and human stories. Before becoming a photographer, Karl worked at the South Pole as a laborer and then in Alaska as a river guide. These experiences showed him the importance of nature conservation and the necessity of infrastructure. Although infrastructure and nature conservation are often at odds, Karl explores and celebrates them both in his work, contributing to the larger national discourse on the subjects.
